William Sharp is a recently retired engineer living a quiet life in Oxfordshire. During a routine visit to a local car boot sale, he purchases an old military medal inscribed with the words:
“EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES”
Inside the presentation box are several seemingly unrelated items: faded wartime photographs, letters written from occupied France, an embroidered handkerchief and a small brass key marked K.C.1511.
Driven by curiosity, William sets out to discover who the medal belonged to and why it was discarded.
